The unit measures liquid level based on hydrostatic pressure. The pressure at the bottom of a tank or well is proportional to the liquid height. A sensing chip inside the probe converts this pressure to an electrical signal. The transmitter then outputs a 4-20mA signal. The probe connects to a soft flexible cable. The cable is waterproof and resists pulling and aging. The cable can stay submerged for long periods. The Float Level Sensor is a different type for clean tank applications. For open channels tanks and wells this submersible type works well. The unit comes as a one piece probe and cable design. No mounting bracket or flange is needed.
